Game of Thrones is overrated. Game of Thrones is Overrated. Published on Jun 1. ![]() Game of Thrones is overrated. I didn't say it sucks, but you know deep inside that it's flawed. This video outlines how Game of Thrones exploits the psyche, fooling many with its mind games. Game of Thrones - the most overrated series of all time? Just thought I should say this beforehand. This one will be a bit of a read, especially this introduction and the fourth subtitle (the first point). Also, watch out for spoilers up until the end of Season 3, along with some minor Season 4 spoilers and the spoiler at the end of Season 5. To be fair, almost all these things have been pasted across the internet so many times that they're just common knowledge now. Let’s begin! Game of Thrones. Even saying THAT is an understatement. Those in the first world that DON’T watch Game of Thrones are shunned as being “odd” or “strange”. ![]() It’s very hard to find criticism of the show anywhere. Which is weird, considering me, alongside a few others I know, not only don’t like it, some of us flat out HATE it. While this group of people is small and to be fair, a good few haven’t even seen the show, it still begs the question: Why just us? Jake Ciely gives his Top 6 reasons why Game of Thrones is overrated. Why I Don’t Really Care About Watching . I can’t for the life of me think why anyone thinks Game of Thrones. Most overrated piece of. Why Game of Thrones is just about the most overrated fantasy series of all-time. Game of Thrones season 6 - the most overrated. Overrated Underrated is the place to make your opinion heard about music. I guess it's a gameshow for the Average American for a reason. Asking around my university class of 2. I discovered that one person hadn’t seen it, one person wasn’t quite partial to it (having seen the first episode and giving up) and the rest being absolutely ADDICTED to it. I didn’t quite get the fascination with the show. ![]() The previous year, I had been informed by my schoolmates that it was a must- see. I watched the first few episodes and saw nothing. They told me “It’s a slow- burn show, but it’s so rewarding”. Being the open- minded person I am, I gave the show a watch until the end of Season 1. It was an average show with some parts that were less than average. My friends kept saying “give it a chance. So, 1. 0 dull- to- average hours (and 5 cool minutes) later, I had finished Season 2. There were many parts about it I absolutely hated. But that wasn’t the end of my Game of Thrones experience. One year passes and I am absolutely bored and hating “Game of Thrones”. ![]() It really wasn’t much to begin with. To me, it wasn’t a very good show, but its fanbase was so massive that it had this hypnotising effect over people, and that made the show even worse. People would ask me “Where are you up to in Game of Thrones?” and I would say “I don’t think the point where I’m at matters, since I gave up on the show”. For any other show, there would have been a total of 3 reactions. The first reaction (and the rarest of the three) would be simply letting it go or just asking . The second reaction would be a joking “WOW! WHAT’S WRONG WITH YOU? Do you have something up with your mind man?” before chuckling and passing over it. The third reaction (and the most common usually) would be a peaceful (.. Game of Thrones does something different. It elicits a fourth reaction. A reaction a die- hard (and I mean DIE HARD) fan of a show would give. A very rare reaction normally, but one that has found a home in the minds of Game of Thrones fans. This reaction is, blow- by- blow, a torturous thing to endure. You aren’t sure whether you feel sorry for them or yourself. Their pupils dilate first from the shock, like I had just stabbed their metaphysical baby that is Game of Thrones (“5 years old now. They grow up so fast don’t they?”). Next comes the smile of desperation as they try to convince themselves that you were joking and they say jokingly . At this point, they realise that I am serious and then they prepare themselves mentally for what they are about to do. They first reassure themselves so as to not ruin the generally content mood by making up excuses for you (“Oh you don’t get HBO right?” and “No internet connection right now?” or even “You have internet censors?” and “So your mum doesn’t allow you to watch it?”and of course, the very worst one “Are you trying to be a hipster/fish for attention?”). When you assure them that you just DON’T like it, this is the deciding moment. One reaction is simply leaving it, backing away with a “we don’t have the tools to deal with this monster right now” look in their eyes and the other, less favourable but more common, reaction is them baring their teeth and attacking verbally, insulting you as a person and insulting your tastes. Personally I think that when an argument comes to this, they’ve already lost, but it still puzzles me what makes these fans like it so much while I dislike it so greatly, but I also wanted to be fully correct when talking about how much I disliked the show to others, because I’m a petty person. So I started again from Season 3 and got to the end of that season before I gave up. No matter how much ammunition I was getting to attack the show with from watching it, it wasn’t worth the time, internet and sanity that was going into watching the show. So, now I’m going to address WHY I don’t like the show and find it INCREDIBLY overrated. If you don’t want to hear this stuff, you have the option to leave. Also, if you’re going to comment, I would absolutely adore it if you could read through the whole article, because I don’t want to have to that thing where I say ? Plus I don’t want people calling this a “hipster rant”. I mean you can, but I’m not trying to be a hipster and I’m trying to keep this article as non- ranty as possible, so I’d appreciate it if you didn’t immediately jump to conclusions. I don’t want to have to weed through all that stuff. Before we begin for proper with actual points, I’m just going to throw 3 questions out of the gate to begin with: Why does the show have such a massive audience? I’m just asking the question)Given the quality and setting/tone, this show should only appeal to a niche audience. It should be popular among a certain group of people. If it was going to be massive (for some unknown reason), it’d be for a massive cult following. This type of show should NEVER be mainstream. Don’t even say it hasn’t become mainstream. It may have started as a cult story, but it’s definitely become mainstream. Has it become mainstream because of the new uprising of nerd culture? If so, other nerd shows wouldn’t be cancelled all the time. Why is Hannibal getting cancelled? Why is Torchwood on “hiatus” for several years? Why doesn’t Gotham have a massive audience? Why has Community been cancelled so often? Why was Constantine cancelled? These aren’t bad shows. They were hardly ever mainstream. Why don’t I like this show? I love alternative history as well. I also love action and I’m a major fan of gory shows and movies. I like nerdy stuff, given I’m more nerd than anything else and have been since at LEAST the age of 5 (I remember one of my first comics at the local library back then. It was a Batman vs Scarecrow one). I do love comedy, but I don’t shy away from the serious or “deep” (I use that term loosely with Game of Thrones). After all, Hannibal (R. I. P.. for NOW) was one of my favourite shows. I love looking at the chaos and backstabbing behind politics. That’s why I’m such a massive fan of The Thick of it (and also because it’s a comedy with Peter Capaldi, but I digress). I also love British actors and their acting talents. I just thought I should establish that Game of Thrones just “isn’t to my taste”, because I have a taste and that taste should be Game of Thrones, but it isn’t and I’ll address why further on. Why am I writing this criticism? Random Game of Thrones images. I am writing this for several reasons: 1. It surprises me how many people are drinking the Game of Thrones cool- aid. It annoys me how many double standards people will endure for Game of Thrones but then attack other shows on the “merits” they grant Game of Thrones. I’m a sour, petty person. I want the fans to understand that people can just not like the show. There’s nothing wrong with that. Going back to point 2, it annoys me that a show like this can run while good shows are being cancelled all the time because of ratings problems. I really wanted to put a lot of research into an article and speak about something that’s been on my mind for a while. I really wanted to collect all the bad points in one article, since criticisms of Game of Thrones are rare and are usually very short. Hopefully the mildly whimsical tone might appeal to some people. I have a problem when a large majority of people call a flawed product “flawless” or “amazing”. Relating back to point 3, I have this need to bring their revered product down. Ok, now I’m actually beginning (I promise you I will this time): How much is being spent on this show? The only thing the show has going for it is the massive world its set in. As such, the setting is usually pleasing to the eye in how varied it can be, but that says nothing when one considers the budget it has. It then cost approximately $6 million an episode before the second season had a 1. Even I think that scene with the green fire explosions was somewhat cool, but not cool enough to warrant $8 million for the episode. In 2. 01. 2, before the third season aired, the average budget grew from what was $6 million for every episode to “at least” $8 million for every episode. The first two Saw films had a lower budget and the entire franchise was worth less than the season. The show is listed number 3 in the ratings of the most costly show ever. With a budget that high, the MINIMUM figures for any season past the jump to “at least” $8 million (which is the third season onwards, probably building up slowly) is approximately $8. Each Lord of the Rings (and the first 2 Harry Potter films) had a budget of only slightly more than that and the film with the highest budget EVER is a mere 4. You may think that ALL top tier movies have a budget around that, but in second place is a film whose budget is a mere 3. Game of Thrones season. Most other films with the highest budget are then around the 2- and- a- bit mark more than ONE 'GAME OF THRONES' SEASON, but most of these are high quality stuff. These numbers haven’t been adjusted though, but given when they came out, the numbers have barely changed and third place is lower than what second place was before it was adjusted. The top 3 films were two Pirates of the Caribbean films followed by Titanic, for those who were wondering. Reasons Why HBO’s.
